Dewatering is not commonly used in southern Alberta as most sites are typically clay and relatively dry. There are however areas that are sandy and have very high water tables. GroundTech uses vacuum assisted well point systems to lower water tables where normal excavation is not possible (due to sloughing and safety concerns).
Typical sites that would be dewatered are deep utility installs, underground tank installations, and lift station sites.
